Massachusetts AG sues the home equity alternative company Hometap.
[Ballard Spahr, LLP] Now’s not a good time to be a company offering home equity alternatives to reverse mortgages or HELOCs. Last month, the CFPB issued a warning on equity sharing arrangements. Last October, Washington State’s Attorney General’s office filed a suit against Unison. Now, Hometap is in the crosshairs of the Massachusetts State Attorney General’s office, who allege that the company “pervasively and systematically violated the state’s consumer protection laws.
